Machine Command started out in 2013. In those times under the name Halcyon Days. In 2014 they released the album „To The Point“ and the EP’s „Tetrachy“ and „Without fear“. In those times Daryl Grootfaam was the singer of the band.
A few shows were played with as high point opening for the German industrial act Straftanz.
In 2018 the band started on what would have been their second album „EBOHIM“. The music was recorded and vocals on three tracks were done but the project stalled. One of the songs of these sessions „Bodyheat“ was ultimately released in 2022 on the Electronic Bodies sampler released by Belgian label Alfa Matrix. In these days the band changed the name from Halcyon Days to Machine Command because there was a metal band active under the same name. Allthough the band had the oldest rights to the name and because the singer had left it was decided to rename the band.
In 2023 there was a new attempt to record a second album. New material was written and Daryl was asked to participate but declined due to lack of time. The second album was ultimately released under the title „New Socialism“ and featured the music with samples and AI vocals instead of real vocals.
An advert for a new vocalist was sitting on an messageboard for months. Then Annemarie Janssen reacted although she saw the album was already released. But work was already underway for a third album and Annemarie joined in. She was originally a singer for acoustic ensembles and theatre but she brought a love for Nina Hagen, Depeche Mode and Front 242 to Machine Command.
At first the single „Not Doing It“ was released and did well with DJ’s and the public. In 2024 the third album „Affected“ was released and managed to reach the number 2 spot on the DAC album charts in Germany.
In 2025 the decision was made to rerecord and release three songs from the first album „To The Point“ and three from the second album „New Socialism“ with new vocals from Annemarie. The EP was released under the name „Two Point Zero“ and did well with good reviews from webzines and good club and radio play.
In the same year the band worked on the fourth album „Cathected“ which will be released in april 2026. Three singles from this album (Die Rote Linie, Decline and Rise Again and Nuke It from orbit) were released in the months before this album and performed really well. Also the first live show was planned in the new line up.
